Seven books out, Nelson, BC-based protagonist Lane Winslow takes a road trip in A Match Made For Murder. Newlyweds Lane and her new husband Inspector Darling (who got married in book #6: A Deceptive Devotion) have made the big trip to Tucson, Arizona for a bit of a honeymoon and some well deserved R&R. The dream of peace and quiet in the American Southwest is shattered, though, when soon after their arrival a wealthy guest is shot and Lane is second on the scene.
A challenging but successful blend of history, mystery, romance and even a touch of humor, the Lane Winslow books have been consistent bestsellers in author Wishaw’s native British Columbia and have gained an increasing following further afield, as well. Murder by the Book in Houston summed up the Lane Winslow series perfectly when they said that the books have the “feel of Louise Penny’s Three Pines, the independence and quick wit of Kerry Greenwood’s Phryne Fisher and the intelligence of Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs.“
Praise in this branch of crime fiction does not get much higher. The Lane Winslow series keeps getting deeper and tighter. I loved seeing them on location this time. Can’t wait to see what they get up to next but it’s a relief to know that, considering this series only got started in 2016, we likely won’t have long to wait! ◊
