blade_runner_keyartWe’ve been getting ready to crow about a Blade Runner sequel for a while now, because, like loads of fans of that cult classic 1982 film, we just can’t wait to see how it all turns out.

The latest word comes from Deadline Hollywood, which confirms that, among other things, production will begin in July:

Sony Pictures has made a deal with Alcon Entertainment for overseas distribution rights to the Blade Runner sequel that Denis Villenueve will direct. The Big Short’s Ryan Gosling stars alongside Harrison Ford, who’s returning to one of his most iconic roles, as Richard Deckard. Warner Bros. has North American distribution rights through its output agreement with Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, and Sony has the rest of the world. Production begins in July.

And sadly, though we’re looking forward to sharing plot details. the official word from IMDb remains that the “plot is unknown.” Though presumably not to Ridley Scott, who is credited with this upcoming filmic sequel to Philip K. Dick’s novel.
