First Look at Ben Affleck’s New Lehane Adaptation

“First day. First shot,” Ben Affleck posted to his Instagram feed four days ago, signifying the beginning oLive_by_Nightf production on his latest directing effort, Live By Night, based imageson the novel by Dennis Lehane. And that first shot? It looks pretty good! (See below right.) And according to Thompson on Hollywood, this film could have all the right stuff:

Starring Affleck, Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, Chris Mcdn.indiewire-1essina, and Chris Cooper, “Live By Night” is not the director’s first time working from source material by Lehane, whose novel “Gone, Baby, Gone” Affleck adapted for his debut feature behind the camera. Affleck, whose last film as director was 2012’s Best Picture winner, “Argo,” has been angling to make “Live By Night” since 2013, only to see Batman swoop in and hijack his schedule—twice.

Live by Night was published in 2012 by William Morrow and won the Edgar award in 2013. IMDB is describing it as a 2017 movie: “A story set in the Prohibition Era and centered around a group of individuals and their dealings in the world of organized crime.” ◊
